romance and adventure abound. the other night bateman and i were in his office. the wind was whipping around the house and the rain was smacking into the windows. i said something about trees falling in weather like that, and then suddenly there was a crush and a groan and we looked out the window in time to see the neighbor’s tree fall into a powerline. the whole thing came crashing down in a sparky mess and then the house went dark.
it only takes 20 or 30 candles to make our kitchen light up.
here i was thinking that my tealight collection was becoming ridiculous, but instead it was perfect. with a candelabra, two crystal candle sticks and tons and tons of tealights, the house was glowing. i took photos of the kitchen, and perhaps when i get some $$ (i should be able to swing it next month) you’ll be able to see them!
there is not much to do in a blackout. you can watch for the police (they took almost an hour! i eventually decided that it was the kitty genovese of powerlines and all of us must be sitting in our houses hoping that somone else had called for them.) you can clean up a bit, if your flashlight will last (we did much of that and i’m hoping to have some media shelves soon. (i hope, i hope!!!) but then, your options narrow and you really do have to settle down into some nudity. or, at least costumes, and better still a touch of both.
that is what we did, and all over the house. it’s an odd feeling to be 100% certain that no one is going to walk in on you. odd indeed.
the lights came on early the next morning, and while we were cold in the night, there are always at least two comforters and a fleece blanket keeping us warm. we save on fuel and it’s cold most nights. just not THAT cold.
yesterday i squeezed bateman and asked if he was happy. he said he was, very. i just wanted to make sure that i was not alone. things with us are so smooth. now if only things around us were the same.

the hot tub had better show up on wednesday, or bateman will go nuts. thursday at the latest. i’ll call them tomorrow to make sure.
the phones need to port, it’s been 6 weeks.
his main outside employer needs to actually send him a paycheck, not just talk about it. it’s been 45 days or some such since the last one and that adds up to quite a bit of money. that’s at least a mortgage payment at this point. living without it is stressful.

i think i found health insurance for bateman. over $300 a month, but if something bad happens, he won’t loose the house. i love that some companies tell you you’re covered, but only give you $250 a day in the hospital. that’s hilarious. get a plan like that, and you’ll be homeless quick. it’s nuts.
i hope his meeting today is the first step in an amazing direction. not worrying about money issues would make us gods.

i’m procrastinating. i should be working. bah. ok, i’ll get back to it. i really will. again, i’m behind.
